Online Organic Grocery Shopping

One of the largest organic, low chemical and natural food stores in Japan has just launched its English site. The prices are higher than your local supermarket but if you are used to shopping at the big international supermarkets in Minato-ku then you might think it is cheap! The English descriptions are not available yet but some of the products do show the area that they were grown. Don't expect foreign brands, it is very Japanese.

If you make your own baby cereal they have organic millet, barley and brown rice in the Rice/Bread/Noodles section. There is also a small selection of organic baby food.

Yodobashi Akiba

The basement and first five floors are exactly what you would expect from a Yodobashi Camera superstore. Next time you need some electronics why not bring your kids here then you can quickly make your way up to the 5th floor which is full of toys and games. If that is not enough, the 7th floor has a tower records for the older kids and a book store with a generous kids section (mostly Japanese books). Once you have had enough, make your way to the 8th floor which is full of restaurants, most of which have kids meals. Golf enthusiats should go straight to the 9th floor.

Shopping for Baby Online

These are three of my favourite English, online shops in Japan.

1. Kenko.com  Japan's no.1 e-drugstore is now available in English, yay! Lots of baby goods and supplements.
2. Items can be purchased from Akachanhonpo online at Rakuten. The descriptions have been translated using an auto-translator so they can be quite confusing. Also available in Korean and Chinese. For all Rakuten products in English click here.
3. Sammy's is a new and used clothing store for kids of all ages, from newborn to 12 years old.

The 2nd floor is where you want to be with kids, it has mens, womens and kids clothing and accessories, toys, baby food, diapers, strollers, cots and cribs, amusement game centre, a kids gym which costs a few hundred yen to enter and a free kids toy area. The 3rd floor has electrical goods, kitchen items, small furniture, bedding, a very good, cheap tailor and books (including a huge Japanese kids selection and some kids toys to keep them occupied while you look around).
The 2nd floor also has ride in cars for the kids with trolleys attached, they are great to take down to the basement to do your grocery shopping with.
