Asobono



Recently opened in August 2011 it is the biggest play centre in central Tokyo that I know of. It has the main room (photo above) which is a huge ball pit full of slides, climbing frames and other fun activities and several other themed rooms including a Thomas train room (photo above), Lego, Mell-chan, Sylvanian Families, fishing, magnets, board games, toy shopping malls and kitchens, baby play room and much more.

Sea Paradise

Sea Paradise is an   amusement park on an island in Yokohama Bay. It has an aquarium, a surf coaster that swings out over the ocean, an exhilarating vertical fall ride, hotel, restaurants, a marina and much more.

Car:  From the Metropolitan Expressway Wangan Line take the "Sachiura" exit, then its about 2km. See details here.

Hours: The actual island is open from around 8.30am to 9.30pm but most attractions are open 10am to 6pm. It does vary depending on the day and time of year so it is best to check the website here.

5-10 years: There are plenty of rides if the older kids are getting bored of fish. Even teenagers would have fun here



Cost for an all inclusive pass:

Junior high school & Elementary school student 3,500 Yen
Children (4 years or over) 2,000 Yen
Twilight pass, after 3pm on weekdays and after 5pm on weekends and school holidays 2,700 yen.
Cheaper passes are available without the all inclusive price, this option would be better for younger children who are too young to use the rides.

Toshimaen

An amusement park with a huge water park in summer and an outdoor ice skating rink and trout fishing in winter. The water park is open July 2nd - September 4th 2011 and children with diapers are allowed in the pools. The water park has a fake beach/wave pool, a shallow kids pool with climbing slopes, rocks and waterfalls, wet play equipment with slides and a large whirl pool. You can also pay 500 yen extra for the gigantic water slide.

Train: 1 minute walk from Toshimaen station exit A2. 14 minutes from Ikebukuro on the Seibu Ikebukuro line, 20 minutes from Shinjuku on the Toei Oedo line. See train maps here and E36 here.

Driving: Parking is available for a flat fee of 1000 yen.

Hours: Open 10am - 5pm and open till 6pm in August. Closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Sagamiko Resort Pleasure Forest

A large playground attraction set amongst the beautiful mountain landscape. Includes a barbecue place, dog and dog field play, outdoor sports field. The summer pool and splash pond are also very popular. More energetic children can enjoy the popular Picasso's Egg and winter-only "Snow Play Square".

Train: From Sagamiko station on the JR Chuo Honsen line take the Kanagawa Chuo Bus to "Pleasure Forest Mae", it take approximately 8 minutes.

Grinpa

Description: Obstacle courses, outdoor amusement park for older kids and large indoor theme park for the younger ones, also a Sylvanian Families Village and a ski slope in winter. You can have a break at the cafes and restaurants once you get hungry from all that playing! Perfect in summer because it is about 1200 meters up the side of Mount Fuji and 5 or 6 degrees cooler than sea level so you can comfortably enjoy the outdoor rides.

Location: 2427 Fujiwara, Suyama Aza, Susono, Shizuoka 410-1231. 5 minutes drive up the road from Fuji Safari Park, on the same street. Follow the signs to Grinpa and Yeti.

  Take JR Odakyu Line (app 104 min by superHighway ) to Gotenba Station.
  Take Taxi to Grinpa (app 30 min)
From Tokyo Station:
  Take JR Tokaido Shinkansen (app 60 min) to Mishima Station.

30 min. from the TOMEI EXPRESSWAY Gotemba Interchange via the Fujisan Skyline or South Outer Road (Oonohara).
20 min. from the TOMEI EXPRESSWAY Susono Interchange via the South Outer Road (Oonohara).
50 min. from the TOMEI EXPRESSWAY Fuji Interchange via Jurigi or the Fujisan Skyline.
60 min. from the CHUO EXPRESSWAY Kawaguchiko Interchange via the Higashifuji-goko Road or the Fujisan Skyline.
5 minutes drive up the road from Fuji Safari Park, on the same street. Follow the signs to Grinpa and Yeti. The website warns of excessive congestion in golden week, obon and new year.

Crawling: Kids FujiQ (pictured above) - A theme park with tons of fun toys you can look at, touch, and play with! It's indoor, so you can have fun playing around even on rainy days! And moms and dads can also take a leisurely break here. Most outdoor rides you must be 110cm.


Walking: Try the Playzone and merry go round. Kids FujiQ (pictured above) is also perfect. Most outdoor rides you must be 110cm.



2-5 years: Sylvanian Village - You can meet the little girl from "Wata Usagi(rabiit)" family, go in and play inside Woodland Lodge, and ride different exciting attractions.


 5-10 years: Try one of the 16 life size obstacle courses.



Cost: One day pass for adults ¥2,950 and  ¥2,300 for kids, cheaper tickets are available which do not include rides and are perfect if you have kids less than 110cm.
